It snew!

snew

I biked in in the snow. That was fun. And then home. That was funner. And then genius here says, “hey, why don’t we do our weekly grocery shopping?”

See, where we are, it had all burned off by then. Where we were going, not so much. Who knew? It was slushy and slippery and awful almost the whole way.

British stores have decided if they don’t do anything about snow in the parking lots, we can’t sue them for not doing a very good job when we fall and break our asses (thank you, American litigious culture, for spreading misery around the Western world). Not kidding, the slush was over my ankles in the parking lot. My sneakers leak.

It wasn’t very much snow at all, but like all places that don’t get snow very often, everyone lost their freaking minds.

Oh well. Made it home. Warm and dry. Almost gin o’clock. How was your Monday?

Did Jack go out and play in the snow?

So, the reasoning is “if I don’t even attempt to remove the snow, you can’t sue for busting-ass on the ice”? That doesn’t seem like a winning strategy.

My Monday was meh. I was in Canada for a few weeks, and this was my first day back at home office..

Meh I say.

Christmas movies are being watched and gifts are being wrapped. Most of them have to be shipped, so it’s past time.

I believe Carl, “Dr. Death,” has won another Spotted Dick Award. He chose Max Clifford on the exact same day he died. Imagine that!

My Monday was painful tho slightly better than last week. You people jinxed me with all your talk about fascitis. My knee started feeling more sore than usual. I then realized it wasnt so much my knee but my thigh. Dr Internet says it is tendonitis and boy, does it hurt. I can only sleep for a few hours at a time. I’ve been treating it with massive does of Ibuprofin and heat. I switched to cold and it seems to be better. Yesterday, my knee gave out climbing my outside stairs and I fell, so I have to be careful. I’m positive I’m going to die in a home fall. I use to think those was weird but not any more.

I was assigned 12 patients on 8 floors in 6 different buildings today. I had my 10,000 steps in by 1030 today. My day was just an effing grind. I have 4 weeks until my sit in the sun for 4 weeks Jan vacation. If I can make it till then without just walking away from my job it will be a miracle. I’m technically 2.5 years from retiring. I say technically because we have saved enough that we can pretty much walk away any time. It becomes more tempting every day to just walk away. That’s how my Monday was.

It is bitterly cold here in Costa Rica as well. It dropped to 16°C. Half my workmates looked like they needed a parka. I came into work wearing my usual t-shirt and they boggled.

It did look decidedly chilly on Sunday when I Skyped my Mum in the IOW. I can’t think the last time they had a proper snowfall there (i.e. actual drifts plus multi-day snow on the ground). I think 1977, but possibly 1986 as well. But given that the last place I lived in the UK before emigrating was Bradford, which is brass monkeys at the moment, I am glad to be in the tropics.

Here in Dallas, we got down to below freezing for two or three hours a few nights ago – enough that we had to bring in a few of our favorite perennials to protect them, however no snow and now it’s back in the 20’s (C). Austin got snow though. Austin gets all the cool stuff.

We had 2-3″ of snow SE of Houston last Friday. It was all melted by lunchtime, so that was good (I hate cold weather). I would love to live in the tropics, rain, mosquitoes, and all (I already have most of that in the subtropics), but my job is very specific to this area, so what can you do? (Other than piss and moan and save up for retirement)

It actually snowed, visibly, on Friday last week. In Da Swamp, that is always memorable. The snow mixed with rain, so you could see the flakes mixed in, but no accumulation. The areas north and west of us did have some buildup — the news stations carried pics of people leaving footprints in snow, and even playing with the stuff.

It was all gone in an hour. Good. The people here can’t drive in the dry, let alone the wet.
