Please help me. I’m trapped in an episode of the Avengers.

twain

…and I look complete shit in a leather catsuit.

We stopped for cream tea (!) one afternoon and this steam train (!) hooted down the tracks behind the parking lot. It isn’t part of an antique steam fair or anything; that’s a genu-wine scheduled train service. Toot toot!

That wasn’t today, though. Today, I have been practicing conservation of energy. If you’ve noticed a certain lack of oomph in my efforts this week, our little corner of England has had itself a by-god heat wave. Nothing compared to Tennessee or <ugh> Louisiana — or even Rhode Island — can do, but I reckon it got into the nineties. And humid. And almost no-one here has air conditioning.

It hit the crescendo today and it’s supposed to break tonight. The moon was orange when I went out earlier, and it’s vanished altogether now. We hear the occasional rumble from the direction of France.

Yep. That there’s another build-your-own-joke.

I hate to spoil the joke because it’s so obvious…
I fart in your general direction!

It’s the fucking year without summer so far in beantown. 3 days of sunshine in the month of June, July is 0-2. But, I have to admire that locomotive in the background. I’m headed over there one of these days and plan to ride the Northhampton and Lamport railway and visit Lamport hall.

Oh….and what is that BEAUTIFUL car in the foreground? I lust for that!

Hmm, reminds me of the car that Young Lady Chatterly molested the hitchhiker in.

Whaddia say, UB? Give ya any ‘ideas’? 😉

Is that car green? I learned how to convert sterling to US dollars by reading Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I was an early anglophile.

That was France laughing about the Great Hamster fines.

Its hot in Orygun – 91 degrees

I have the spray bottle / wind technique for my van A/C. I actually like it.

So that IS where we Aussies got out damnable habit of not embracing modern comforts – namely A/C. We have STUPID summers around here, and yet very English styled houses with plenty of heating (!? .. for our intensely cold winters, rarely breaking 10c.) and no cooling. B’UUHH?

“And almost no-one here has air conditioning.”

Sure we do! We have fans. Lots of them. No wonder our leccy bill is going through the roof. It is beginning to be standard on cars, though.

I attended a conference at an army base a few days ago – the main room (and the exhibitors) was situated in a marvellous glass roofed atrium, and the temp on arrival was uncomfortable – at 1:00pm it was unbearable. Then they served lunch. Hot lunch.

*sigh*

I however do know the Avengers!

I always wanted John Steed’s umbrella. Who wouldn’t want a sword umbrella?

Oh, and Armybrat,

Isn’t global warming great?

What IS that car? It looks very much like a Morgan but that is not a Morgan radiator.

It looks like a close relative of the car pictured here: http://www.topspeed.com/cars/morgan/2006-morgan-4-seater-ar3128.html

Nom, nom, nom. Lurve cream teas. What kind of food did you have? I’m curious to know what real English teas are like.

Just scones, butter, clotted cream and strawberry jam with a pot of tea, Nicole. Uncle B may have had a slice of fruitcake.

Roman Wolf…..gorbal warming my ass. It rained AGAIN today. I’m still wearing a jacket! When a pale pasty-white Irish girl like me hasn’t had a sunburn yet, ya’ know it ain’t summer.

And whatever that car is….I still lust for it!

I just knew it was green!

Happy Birthday America!

If you celebrate over there, do people think you are just rubbing it in?

The question isn’t what’s the car in the foreground. The question is what is that abortion in the background ? Looks like an AMC Pacer with the bloat.

Hatchbacks are very common here.

You ever ride in a Pacer? I drove one on a used car lot once. All that glass? The view from inside was excellent! It really stuck in my mind how fabulous the visibility was. It just looked retarded, is all.

Have to admit, if the steampunk folks were to create a country, it’d be England.

Oh, wait, they did. And it is.
