What the hell…is it Monday or something?

They’re trying to make a maniac outta me!

THE Conservatives will propose banning plasma screens and other energy-guzzling electrical goods in a report to be unveiled next week.

The proposals target white goods like fridges and freezers, as well as TVs, personal computers and DVD players that use too much energy or operate on stand-by.

The ideas come from a Conservative group set up by David Cameron to develop policies to protect the environment and although the measures to make household electrical appliances more energy efficient are not binding on Mr Cameron, they are thought likely to be warmly received by the Tory leader.

The group will also suggest scrapping Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as a measure of the nation’s success in favour of a model that measures people’s happiness drawn up up by Friends of the Earth.

I think my spleen just exploded.

Does this mean we’re closer to getting the hovercars we were promised?

Banning computers? Well…if The Almighty State says so, I suppose…

There’s something awfully Randian about this. ‘Hey, our economy is dead, and I live off sunflower seeds and live in a commune, by by golly, I’m happy!’

Did you piss somebody off? The first time I clicked thru I got an exceeded PHP error, but it’s all ok now.

Is that last bit about the GDP true?

I’m getting intermittent PHP errors. I don’t know if Bluehost is having problems (they do periodically) or if I really do have a dodgy piece of code in here somewhere (it sure ain’t a high traffic thing…the internet’s been dead, dead, dead lately).

And, yes. I don’t have an imagination vile enough to make that up. That’s the voice of the CONSERVATIVE party in Britain.

Dude. You’re moving to England which is more left wing, PC, and whacko than Berkeley and San Franscisco combined. Have you not been paying attention? Conservative over there = Nancy Pelosi on a wierd day over here.

Look on the bright side: if your work and Significant Other will permit you, you’ll be on fire, blog-wise, once you relocate. You’ll be posting and posting, pages and pages for each day! Think of all the outrage and barking you can channel into your blog!

Not that you’re not on fire already. Which you are. You get my drift.

Wow. You’re moving to a place getting ready to launch back to the stone age. You will get to wear a burkha before us and without TV and computers (oh yes, those will go bye bye in time the way that place is moving), the next generation, educated by Friends of the Earth, will be happily utopianed.

Yeah, but think how close our kind blog host will be to Highland & Islay Single Malt Scotchland.

Ah, Scotchland. I understand that they don’t mind if you wear mismatched scuffed-up shoes there. And you can sniff the – I believe it’s called “Angel’s Tithe” – there daily.

I’d like to visit Scotchland, but I understand it involves travel.

I’m still banking on this being a very late (or early) April Fools. How can you measure something relatively objective like GDP in terms of a wishy-washy, wholly subjective human emotion. That’s just bad craziness of the highest order.

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
