Watching London burn

I’ve got nothing to add that you couldn’t find out for yourself by following the BBC online or the Telegraph’s live coverage. Except we’re probably getting more ‘chatter’ (as they say in the intelligence biz).

A lot of this is about straight up looting. The picture above is a game store. HDTV, phones, clothes…some lady said they were forming orderly queues to loot an electronics store (that is so Britain).

But the clashes in the street (and perhaps the arson), pictures show an awful lot of young white faces. Either the papers are choosing photos carefully on that basis, or these are typical anarchist rent-a-mobs from outside. The neighborhoods catching fire are not white neighborhoods.

Nowhere near our old haunts yet, happy to say.

Police say they’ll publish the all photos they can get (like this personable young man cheerfully displaying his loot on Facebook) and prosecute anyone they can identify. I would have doubted once, but some kids from the last riot got jail time.

Beyond that…we’ll see. This isn’t the first time people in London have burned down their own neighborhoods. The reaction before was to hose them with money and ‘understanding’.

This time maybe — just maybe — the law-abiding population is too rattled by a general sense of everything’s-going-to-shit to take it.

Another element that may not be obvious from afar: the police are not beloved of the righties, particularly in London. They have gone *so* PC. They specialize in sucking up to miscreants and making life a misery for the law abiding.

There’s a general feeling of “can’t they both lose?”

Comment from JuliaM

I wouldn’t say that was ‘the police’, rather, it’s the ACPO top brass, like the bag of wind Tim Godwin, current Acting Commish, who was wheeled out on Sky earlier to…ummm, I think his brief was ‘reassure Londoners’, but he didn’t reassure me.

He was heckled at the start of his outside broadcast, but I couldn’t make out what the heckler was saying. Some wag on a police blog suggested it was his own officers!

Oh! Do you follow a good police blog, JuliaM?

Non-fiction cop books were one of my favorite guilty pleasures in the States. You know, true stories of the gritty street, that sort of thing.

So I downloaded a Kindle sample of a UK cop book…and it was all about the sensitivity training they had to take, the lack of instruction on real policing matters…made my stomach hurt. I couldn’t take it.

Same thing with doctor books in the US and UK. One is about medicine, the other is about the trials of the NHS (though every one of them seems to start with a statement about how wonderful the NHS is and how they wouldn’t trade it for anything).

I used to follow A Copper’s Blog. But since PC “Copperfield” escaped to Canada, it’s been largely inactive (and a lot less amusing/horrible).

Second City Cop here in Chicago is red-hot, but pretty local, and it’s more for the troops to vent than to enlighten the public.

Hosing the misunderstood, needy, disenfranchised peaceniks with money, hand-holding, teary compassion works wonders. If your objective is to multiply the ranks of the same in exponential order, that is.

This most regrettable Tottenham unpleasantness should not be a police matter, that’s a job for motorized infantry.

We have more of these areas stateside than Jolly Oulde will have after the rest of mobile Brits will flee. There are already areas in Southside Chimpago where the USPS refuses to deliver mail, for instance. If the government (i.e. mail) lost the ability to perform, it would in saner days result in National Guard being deployed. Haaaaaaaaaaah-ha-ha-ha! But we have run out of these days around the War of Northern Aggression, 150 springs back.

Just by coincidence I did watch a “Harry Browne” movie the other day, with Michael Caine. It is quite rare for me to be appreciative of Britisher contemporary production but it is very well worth watching. Senescence will not be a happy ride, and it looks like my plans to be spoon fed under the gazebo on a meadow by an apron-clad busty Swiss nurse may need to be re-evaluated.

No doubt in my mind that the official reaction to the chimpout will be to establish a committee and appropriate resources for community organizing. Every day we prove the creatures correct.
We seem to have misplaced the will to keep on truckin’.

It’s been a bit . . . un-nerving here in North London tonight. Went out in the garden about 10 PM and could hear several sirens, mostly in the distance or travelling from north to the south. There hasn’t been any nonsense evident in this neighbourhood–and we have no reason to think it will occur. But it could. We hope it won’t. Talked to the neighbour (who is a London LFC fan and a tough old dog) and we’re all safe w/ home security and watching each others’ backs. Can’t come up with anything more profound to say other than prayers for All of Us, and special ones for the people who will suffer for a long time as a consequence of the lawlessness we’re sitting in right now.

Was glued to Twitter last night as more and more familiar place names kept cropping up, and it seemed the riots (or rather, the opportunistic looting) were moving ever closer.

There were some reports of real communities banding together to chase away the jackals. That’s heartening. It’s also scary, to think it was necessary.

There was sporadic disorder (mostly looting and opportunistic burglary and arson) in some Northern Towns – the bad ones, Manchester and Birmingham.

Areas closer to London – but really on the outskirts – with large populations of scum (Barking, East Ham, Ilford) also had issues wiv da yoof.

In these situations, Twitter is your friend. Faster than the blogs.

Heh. That blog has nailed the Universal Problem in Western “Civilization”. “Diversity” has become the overarching goal of society, and has been enabled, nay, even blessed, by those passing themselves off as “Law Enforcement”. I believe we are not far from the time when TSHTF. The UK “Law Enforcement” may not have much to fear, since by and large the UK Mere Citizens have been disarmed. Sure, 2x4s may hurt, but they are not very effective against water cannon and bullets. And even over here in West Pondia, the damnable swill have disarmed the Mere Citizens in MANY of the urban hellholes. But outside of those bastions of sewage, MANY Mere Citizens are appropriately armed. So when TSHTF over here, “Law Enforcement” will be among the first to go.

Diversity is multiculturalism by any other name.

After the Fort Hood massacre when the good psychiatrist doc started to shoot unarmed soldiers (incl. pregnant women) for absolutely no discernible reason whatsoever (maybe his gun made him do it), this line which shall forever live in infamy was uttered:

“Our diversity not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.”

The fellow who said this was the Chief of Staff of the US Army, General Casey. Translation: kill our soldiers if you absolutely must, but leave Diversity alone!

If the indigenous personnel in Tottenham started to riot after one of the tribe was ventilated by a designated marksman (as opposed to, say, more common and accepted ventilation by a fellow tribesman over some shiny piece of bling), I can only imagine the consequences when the Sun-God Messiah, The Benevolent Chairman Obaba will be driven to the property gate on a wheelbarrow in January 2013.

Back in 1968 when 14th Street burned it was called “race riots”. Then we graduated to “sectarian violence”. There will be a new slicker term, maybe “traffic restrictions” and “real estate remodeling” or “outdoor youth activities”.

Diversity shall ye always have amongst ye. And if whatever little there was did not initially succeed, the overlords shall send plenty more. We the remaining taxpayers will fund the cruise liners sent to Mogadishu/Lagos/Khartoum to import diversity at any price if it comes to that.

Comment from Uncle Al
Time: August 9, 2011, 4:11 pm

I try to point out to those who will listen that as currently used the term “diversity” is quite the opposite of its historical meaning. Today, diversity involves subordinating the most valuable diversity, i.e. the diversity of individuality, to the expectation that all people who share some distinguishing racial, ethnic, religious, etc., characteristic are interchangeable and identical in any political or social role. “Diversity” is an insidious collectivist construct, an example of linguistic piracy, and quite effective in divide-and-conquer tactics.

I, too, occasionally lurk on that Americans in the UK forum–when I can bear it. Insufferable and clueless, most of them–lost in fantasy world about how how marvellous the UK is and how they no longer have to bear the dreariness of living in the USA. (But there’s no Targets or Bed, Bath, and Beyond!) You can cut the elitism with a dull knife. My loathing of this type of American is beyond the pale. The last time I read one of their postings, they were urging everyone to sign the petition protesting the Ronald Reagan statue being erected in Grosvenor Square. That didn’t work, so there was a new petition to have it removed and replaced with one of FDR. There was also a diatribe about how mean and nasty the Tea Partiers were being to Poor, Misunderstood Barry. At that point, I needed to power down and play with my puppy and drink cups of tea and go to my Happy Place.

The other thing he says that throws me for a loop is “expect to see miracles,” because they’re going to happen in the midst of all this looniness.

This reminds me of something I heard a while back… that some protestant denomination in America decided to start sending some of its missionaries to the US, considering their own country a mission field where people had forgotten God.

I feel like Western Civilization has to start sending its own “missionaries” into its own homelands, such as England: bringing rule of law, truly equal treatment of all people, and the rights of free speech and self-defense. The London I’ve been reading about these past few years, and especially these past few days, bears no resemblance at all to the great capital city that my lovely wife visited years before our marriage. The whole damn place is like one long footy riot, and the police seem a less-effective version of Rowan Atkinson’s fictional precinct.

They fit and conceal nicely into ones pockets, and are lite-weight.
