I can see a lot of this in my future
In case you can’t quite make it out, that’s me poking a glob of KitEKat on a toothpick into the open maw of Jack’s latest victim (he didn’t mean to hurt innybody, he just wants to playyyyyyy). This is a very birdy place and Jack is a bird-loving sociopath, so I might as well learn to do this now.
Birdy alert and feeding well. Making a nuisance of itself hopping all over my study. Very nearly a fledgling (perhaps it was on its first flight) so it shouldn’t be in care long, assuming it survives the encounter with the deadly cat’s mouth bacteria. In fact, I tried to give it back to its parents twice by putting it on branches near the nest, but he couldn’t quite make his way home. When I brought him in the first time, I thought the cold had done for him and it was quite a while before I got him hopping and chirping again.
I can roughly make out where the nest is, but I can’t possibly get there because it’s very high and the fruit cage is in the way. Parents followed me all around the garden all day calling me the worst names they could think of.
Anyhoo, he’s a baby Common Blackbird (Turdus merula). This is a completely different bird than the New World blackbirds of home. In case you ever wondered why the Beatles wrote a pretty lilting song about a bird that goes SKWA, Eurasian blackbirds don’t go SKWA. They have one of the nicest calls going. Check out their Wikipedia page for a couple of examples.
Have a good weekend, folks, and send nice thoughts to the little birdie.

“KitEKat”? Is this made from Jack’s relatives? Or from Jack himself?
OK, Google reveals it is cat food. Feeding cat food to a cat victim… vaguely surreal.

I think it’s supposed to be pronounced kitty Kat, but we call it kite cat in this house. We am hooked on phonics.

And I thought you’d made a typo and meant “KitKat” the candy bar! Birdie might like a little chocolate.

We have a pet blackbird here that pops in and out of the back yard – and house.
It is very good, as it doesn’t shit inside …
If it is ever hungry … side for some tasty snacks – and out again … no fear of man …

If he’s over the initial shock & feeding, he should do ok.

Happy birthday month, it’s mine too, but it’s really crappy because mine always falls under a week before mother’s day so only one gift!😫

We had a kitty that was a real lover, but when it came to birds she was death on paws. The ex- put a belled collar on her to give the birds a chance, and the little stinker figured how to stalk in a way that the bells didn’t ring!

One of my sisters has a violent bird murderer named Cleo. Cleo does not tolerate bells on her collar, & has managed to removed every one so far.

Here in Georgia USA I’ve had six woodpecker species, black capped chickadee, tufted titmouse, blue bird, goldfinch, and a dozen more at the feeders and on the ground. The first ruby-throated hummingbird I saw was 3 weeks ago at a feeder. There’s also a well-established population of 3-striped chipmunk just out of hibernation, squirrel, raccoon, opossum, rabbit, deer (ready to birth), bear and coyote. Half a dozen black bear were killed within a few miles of here when hit by cars in a short time this winter. Coyotes are the champs, though; I’ve seen them trotting down the sidewalk in this well-manicured subdivision like they were President of the HOA taking an after-dinner stroll. I keep live traps and have trapped & released all but deer, bear, and coyote, . I need a bigger trap. Domestic cats and dogs left loose in this area are soon eaten. Just a few miles north, there are groundhogs, and less than a hundred miles south there are armadillos. There is also a population of bobcat and panther in this area: a friend had a panther walk past the tree she was in while deer hunting last season and it never saw her. The thought that she could have legally put her arrow through it never crossed her mind. She had no idea how rare an experience that was, nor how quickly she could have become the hunted. Hearing a panther scream while you’re in the deep woods at night is not something one forgets.
Give that baby bird some earthworms.
Well, night all. Sleep well. Say your prayers.

“Rumour has it”
Does one commenter on an article really constitute a “rumour”? Wouldn’t it be more accurate to say ‘some random nutcase thinks’?

Is that the very same Senoj Xela that spit on Michelle Malkin and runs a crazy ass website?
OTOH, I do think war is coming. Just not the old-fashioned kind we’re used to. OTTH, I just watched 4 Brit Coms in a row, waiting for Turn to start, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
