Objects in history may be smaller than they appear…

asskicking

Yes, you guessed it. In the complex and sophisticated iconography of sweasel.com, this diagram illustrates Gordon Brown getting his ass kicked in the European elections.

And an historic kicking of ass it was! We sat up and watched the regional count. Everybody knew Labour would do badly, but this here debacle was a fucking Greek tragedy of an ass-kicking: the worst Labour has done since 1918 (founded: 1900). The worst a party in power has done in a national election EVER.

Labour lost Cornwall for the first time in decades. They came in sixth. Below the Cornish National Party (Uncle B describes as ten nutters in a pub). This after coming in lower than the Monster Raving Loony Party in St Ives last week.

It was epic.

And meaningless. For now, anyhow. Labour doesn’t have to call an election until May next year, and (from a cravenly political point of view) they’d be nuts to do it any sooner. They’ve got the power, and a year is an eternity in politics. Gordon Brown has dug his heels in and nobody in his camp (so far) has the stomach to give him a push. David Cameron of the Tories is way out front, but he’s still the Lindsay Graham of British politics (now with added Greenie!). The fringe parties are still…fatally fringe-y.

And this was the European election. Voting in this thing is like getting to choose between being smacked upside the head or elbowed in the crotch (hence the pathetic turnout).

Still, Labour got its ass kicked! And it was a hell of a thing to watch.

Is there any correlation between the jackass symbology for Brown and the Donkey for the Democrats in the USA?

..also, we here in California, voters handed the hopelessly incapable legislature and “The Guvernator” Schwarzenegger a huge setback on five of six crypically-worded ballot propositions in May. The loose translation was “we need more of your tax dollars to run our state and care for the illegal aliens streaming into our schools and taking our jobs”. But the voters saw through it and voted them down by an average of two-to-one.

The only one that passed was a proposition saying no legislator could have his salary raised if the state runs a deficit.

The left out here is trying to spin the low turnout for that vote as well. But they grossly underestimate the seething rage of the majority of Californians — (D) and (R) and (I).

I hope they continue their snooze right on through 2012..

..and good luck getting Gordo replaced. Just like we’re hoping for Reagan II over here, we’re also praying for Thatcher II over there.

“Ten nutters in a pub”

That made me snortle and I’m still giggling. Thanks Uncle B!

“Ten nutters in a pub”
Yeah, that needs a comment. Snicker and giggle.
Someday I hope to resemble that remark.

So the Cornish National Party has picked up some members?

Ten Nutters in a Pub…… Sounds like either a Jazz band, a group of Animal Castration Specialists, or even a group of Animal Castration Specialists who play Jazz in the evenings after a long day at work……

Funny, yet disturbing…… 🙂

OK, I just clicked the loonyparty link, and I must say that Ted Nugent would NOT be amiss at one of their parties…..

Meanwhile, Back on the couch, Mare Winningham has converted to the Jewish faith, and has released a Bluegrass album of Jewish biblical music.

Meh, to each their own, I guess. She was cute as a member of the brat pack….

And a new headquarters too by the sounds of it. Which is just as well. Nobody was ever going to take them seriously until they moved out of the bus stop.

The best thing about this for me – a vindictive, spiteful, shallow sort of guy – is to watch the BBC employees looking like they’ve been slapped hard by someone wearing a gauntlet as they have to grudgingly report on this national and European shift to the right. They’ve been eating Skittles and dreaming of unicorns and basically just reading out government (domestic and foreign/European) press releases for so long that they’re literally blind to the fact that Britons and Europeans are sick to the back tits of socialism and politcal correctness and multiculturalism and all the rest of that good stuff.

In the past few days, the BBC has dropped its tenuous façade of objectivity, impartiality and journalistic integrity altogether. I hope lots of people noticed, and that its days will be as numbered as Gordon Brown’s and Labour’s most assuredly are.

Yes, but imagine a Democrat party that had fired Obama after winning three the elections and put Biden in power, with most of his party taking tips on honesty from Dodd and Murtha.

I’m hoping the left-wing talking heads are right here. They say that Cameron is another Thatcher. I don’t think he is, but I think his team together might be: he is a far more collegiate leader than we have had for a while.

I want the European elections to mean more than that so I am sticking my fingers in my ears and saying la la la la.

Mare Winningham – Hebrew with a country twang. weird.
You can listen to a sample here. Turn your volume down though. She’s not that great of a singer. Probably more fun live with an elderly jewish audience who can sing along.

Oooo, and great sorta near D-Day symbolism too. That’s a paratrooper’s jump boot. You may ask how I know? Because in Jump School one of the Black Hats threatened to deposit his boot in my fourth point of contact. While I did what seemed like thousands of push-ups with those things right in my face.

Here’s a cool picture, this won’t hurt a bit

Snap! Oh that harness is in the wrong spot! Oof!

Lordy, I can’t believe I volunteered for that stuff. Thanks for the flashback Weasel.

Richard – Cameron is no Thatcher.

He is a patrician ‘one nation’ Tory in the vein of Edward Heath or Harold Macmillan.

Or, to put it another way: he is absolutely bloody useless.

Weas, thanks for the insights into the EU and UK politics. I’ve been reading the Telegraph, Times, Daily Mail websites and trying to make sense of it all. The English are incredibly, um ‘proper’ about this, but it makes me want to tear my hair out just looking at it from California.

BTW: The politicians in Cali. are trying to make the ‘cuts’ as painful as possible to the citizens. But cut the unions (who own the politicians) wages? Ha! I hope we persevere. I do know that more taxes may be a tipping point here.

Stay well!
